Core Patterns – Guidance for online sessions

Updated: April 2026

Introduction

Taking part in an online session is a different experience to being physically present with Beth in a group or one-to-one setting. Whether you are joining a live streamed session or watching a pre-recorded class, this guidance will help you get the most from your experience and keep yourself safe.

Please read this guidance before your first online session. By participating you confirm you have read and understood it.

Before Your First Session

If you are a new client you must complete a health questionnaire before participating. You’ll be sent a health questionnaire before your first session. You’ll be asked to complete this and to and read the Health & Safety Disclaimer before your first session.

If you are an existing client, you do not need to complete a new health questionnaire for future bookings, but please let Beth know before each session if anything has changed in your health.

Your Responsibilities

By participating in online sessions you agree to take responsibility for:

  • Ensuring you are practising in a safe, suitable environment
  • Confirming you are healthy enough to participate
  • Following this guidance as your commitment to keeping yourself safe and injury-free

Beth is fully insured to teach remotely, but is unable to assess the space in which you are practising to the same degree as in a face-to-face session.

Setting Up Your Space

  • Clear enough space around you to move your arms and legs freely without risk of hitting furniture or objects
  • Check your floor surface is suitable – a yoga mat on a non-slip surface is ideal
  • Make sure your device is securely positioned and will not interfere with your movement
  • Adjust your lighting so you can see the screen clearly without glare
  • Have any props ready beforehand – blocks, belts, blankets, cushions, water

Setting Up Your Technology

  • Use a stable internet connection where possible – an ethernet cable is more reliable than wifi
  • Close other applications and browser tabs to free up bandwidth
  • For live sessions, position your screen so Beth can see as much of you as possible – you will probably need to be at least 6 feet from your device
  • Connect your laptop to your TV via an HDMI cable if you want a bigger screen – have a trial run beforehand
  • Mute phone and device alerts before the session begins

During Live Streamed Sessions

  • Please join a few minutes early, especially if it is your first time using the platform
  • There may be a waiting room on entry – Beth will admit you when ready
  • Mute your microphone when not speaking to avoid background noise interference
  • Use the chat or raise hand button if you need to speak to Beth during the session
  • Please let Beth know at the start of the session if it is your first time, or if anything has changed in your health
  • Do not share your session link or password with anyone else – sessions are private and for invited participants only

During Pre-Recorded Sessions

  • Pre-recorded sessions cannot be adapted to your specific needs in the moment
  • Please read the Health & Safety Disclaimer carefully before participating
  • If a movement feels wrong or causes discomfort, stop immediately
  • Do not share access to pre-recorded content with anyone else

What to Wear

Dress as you would for a face-to-face class – comfortable, breathable clothing that allows free movement. In live sessions other participants may be able to see you on screen.

GDPR

If a live session is being recorded you will be asked for your consent in advance, in accordance with UK GDPR.
